Children of The Stars

Today ten award-winning authors launch a new science fiction short story series, Return To Earth. The premise is simple:

Earth’s story is littered with fantastic tales of alien contact with Earth, both past and future. Some of these tales bring light and hope, while others make us shiver with horror. But what happens when the foreign visitors look remarkably like us? How will the world react when instead of extraterrestrials, it’s humans who Return to Earth?

The premise may be simple but when you unleash the creativity of the members of the author co-operative, The Alvarium Experiment, all kinds of stories emerge from the cosmic dust. From Alien-Operated Bots (AOB) that suffer a malfunction… to traveling through wormholes. From secret missions to colonize distant planets… to viruses on board an intergalactic spaceship. From deep-sea expeditions into the Bermuda Triangle… to the great homecoming of the space-born descendants of the mythical planet Earth. From tales of incredible fertility… to the evacuation of the planet. Strange phenomenon and alien encounters that threaten the survival of mankind.

Return To Earth… these are the stories Sci-Fi readers crave and stay up late at night to read.

Children of the Stars… a science fiction thriller in the mold of The Twilight Zone and The X Files. In Japan, an American medical researcher discovers the deadly secret behind an eighty-year-old woman’s ageless appearance and incredible fertility, and her connection to the bizarre disappearance of the freighter the Ourang Medan in 1948.

"In my files are transcripts of what Hiroko has told me about her ‘travels’ and how she becomes pregnant… I’ve found more women like this in other parts of the world. This is so much bigger than you can imagine."

"Strange lights had been seen in the sky that night. Several ships responded to her distress call. The Ourang Medan was found drifting, her entire crew dead, their blistered faces turned to the sky, their expressions grotesquely distorted and the fingers of the corpses pointing skywards. The crew from a rescue ship had boarded the Ourang Medan and were examining the bodies when an explosion occurred in the ship's hold. The ship listed badly and the rescuers had to evacuate the Ourang Medan before it sank. The causes of both the deaths on the Medan and the subsequent explosion that doomed the ship are unknown. I think I know what happened aboard the Ourang Medan that night. But questions remain.”

A flash of blue light ripped open the celestial display above their heads. A loud boom followed, shaking the ground so hard it nearly knocked them off their feet. The light expanded into a large luminous ring, its blast-wave sending the misty clouds retreating in haste.

As an author, my overactive imagination fills my mind with three dimensional puzzles of stacked what-if questions that cry out for answers. You can find me fueling my creativity amidst the chaos of a very busy life in my writer’s den where I dream up whimsical adventures that range from the satirical to the macabre which I then blog about on CharlesACornell.com
